Hooray for the well-maintained water heaters that keep us all comfortable.
So let’s talk water heaters. Here’s what you should know to keep yours running smoothly.
Water Heaters – The Unsung Heros of Our Homes and How to Maintain Them
There are several types of water heaters and knowing which you have or what type you want when it’s time to replace it is important! We’ve created a list of the different types and the pros and cons of each. You can read more about that here. But for the purpose of this blog, you should know that there are 4 types of water heaters:
- Traditional – Stores hot water that’s ready to be used on-demand. The tank refills as the water is used.
- Tankless – These are small units that can be placed inside or outside against a wall. They provide 2-3 gallons of hot water per minute, as needed.
- Hybrid – Energy efficient and create a cool space around the area they’re in.
- Solar – These tanks have a low operating cost and can last for up to 30 years. They can also provide hot water during power outages…bonus!
Your water heater deserves recognition and a little TLC for all the uninterrupted work it does for your household. Water heaters need to have an annual maintenance check. This ensures everything is running properly and in good working order which can save you money and may even extend the life of your unit.
Maintenance includes cleaning and flushing the unit which removes sediment that can build up and cause your water heater not to work properly or even to stop working completely. The undissolved dirt, sand and minerals that build up between annual flushings need to be removed so you and your family continue to have the hot water you want.
